Ransom P. Essex
Dedication of a New Park
History of the Park
At the end of the 2012-13 school year, the Essexville-Hampton School District closed Hughes Elementary School and sold the building to the Bay-Arenac Intermediate School District. Today the building is home to Bay Community High School.
Very generously, Essexville-Hampton Schools sold the large play field to the north of the school to the City for $1. Thanks to our City Manager, Jack Gustafson, and Bay Landscaping, the City has a plan for this field. Throughout the next several years, as grant money becomes available, we will develop the field into a natural space set aside for the enjoyment and recreation of our residents. We hope to have a walking track, recreation area for sporting activities, and a dog park.
It didn't take long for City Council to propose and vote on a name for the soon-to-be park: Council has chosen to name the park after our founder, Ransom P. Essex.
